Forney High School Percussion Program Concludes Year with the Third Annual Night of Percussion Concert

The Forney High School Percussion Program presented its third annual Night of Percussion on Tuesday, June 2. The concert featured students from Warren Middle School, Brown Middle School and Forney High School performing percussion solos and ensembles.
The concert also featured several special guest performers including Dr. Daniel Loudenback, FISD private saxophone teacher on saxophone; Ms. Leah Cochran, FISD Middle School Choir teacher on piano; Mr. Shannon Jacobs, FISD Percussion Lesson teacher on percussion and Daniel Morgan, a student at Forney High School on electric guitar.
The Forney High School Percussion Program won several awards this year. The Drum line won numerous captions awards at various drum line events throughout the year; the Caribbean Ensemble performed in the State Capitol in March; the FHS Indoor Drum line was named the 2009 NTCA Indoor Percussion Champions in March; the Wind Ensemble percussion section finished second at the Dallas Wind Symphony Festival; the Wind Ensemble Percussion Ensemble received a First Division Rating at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest and percussionist Nick Rothouse was selected as an Outstanding Percussion Soloist and will perform with the Dallas Wind Symphony.
The percussion program is under the direction of Mario Luna and assisted by Shannon Jacobs, a University of Texas at Arlington music education major. Percussion lesson teachers for Forney High School are Shannon Jacobs and Patricia Islas.
