The Forney Economic Development Board of Directors announced at last nights meeting that Mark Ellis has been appointed to the EDC Board of Directors by the Forney City Council.
Ellis is employed by NextEra Energy Resources Forney location as their Manager of Cost and Performance Thermo Hydro Plants. He currently serves
as the Chair of the Forney Building Standards Commission and on the Forney Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors.
Ellis has been appointed to fill the recent board vacancy that was created when Forney Mayor Darren Rozell resigned as the Vice-President of the EDC last month.
Mayor Rozell stopped by just before the official start of the meeting to wish Ellis and the other members of the EDC Board well and to express how much he had
“enjoyed working with them.”
After opening the regularly scheduled monthly meeting, Ellis was officially sworn in by EDC Coordinator Kim Buttrum.
The meetings agenda also called for the election of EDC Board Officers so after all scheduled business had been discussed, Board President Bill Cates opened the
floor to a motion for the nomination of board officers.
Longtime Board Member Jay Calvin immediately made motion “to nominate Bill Cates as President, Tyler Moore as Vice-President, Meredith Briggs as Treasurer, since she is already doing the job and to keep Kim Buttrum as the board Secretary.”
Before the nominations could proceed, EDC Coordinator Kim Buttrum informed the Board, “I was contacted by Jeff Moore (City of Forney Attorney) and was told that I can’t be the board secretary. It has to be a Board Member. I can continue to do the work and to assist the Secretary, but I can’t be elected.”
A short discussion and review of the EDC Board By-Laws, which were provided to members in their board packets, ensued and shortly thereafter Board Member Jay Calvin
reworded his original motion.
Calvin stated “I’d like to elect Bill Cates, President, Tyler Moor Vice President, Meredith Briggs, Treasurer and Jay Calvin, Secretary.”
Calvin’s motion was officially seconded by newest board member, Mark Ellis, and all members voted their approval.
