Monday morning, the Kaufman County Commissioners Court approved $10 million in transportation funding to complete the Forney Parkway Bridge Project.
Last fall, the City of Forney annexed land needed for a new parkway that will stretch from FM 1641 just north of Helms Trail into the proposed Meadow Ridge retail development.
The project includes a bridge that Forney city officials believe will greatly help traffic flow and congestion by providing two way access over the railroad tracks that run thru the center of town.
Breaking a tie, Kaufman County Judge Wayne Gent joined County Commissioner’s Clark and Deller in voting to approve the 10 million dollar roadway project with transportation funds that were allotted by the North Texas Council of Governments (NTCOG).
According to Kaufman County Commissioner Ray Clark, “The county was given $20 million to use towards roadway projects. We were specifically instructed to use the funding on projects that were ready to begin construction. The Forney Bridge Project was slated to begin almost immediately and it will be finished within two years.”
Commissioner Clark stated, “There were a lot of projects to consider and the Forney project was ready to go so we approved it first. Now, we’ll meet again and allocate the remaining 10 million dollars towards projects else where in the county.”
