Tuesday was senior night for the Crandall Pirates men's basketball team and although they dearly wanted a victory in their final district game of their senior’s careers it wasn’t meant to be. The Pirates from Crandall Texas had a battle the whole night as they duked it out with Wills Point for a chance to tie for the district championship.

They fought gallantly for one half but a strong Wills Point second half gave the Tigers a 52 – 44 victory over the Pirates from Crandall as they finished in second place in Class 3A Region II District 14 with a 6 – 2 record.  The Tigers had a perfect district record of 8 – 0 to take home the crown.

Crandall actually led by scores of 16 – 8 and 30 – 18 at the end of the first and second quarters as everything they threw at the basket seemed to go in giving them a 12 point lead going into the locker room at half time.

The Pirates started out slowly the second half and never really got going scoring only 4 points in the third quarter but still maintaining a slight lead 34 – 33 to start their final quarter of district play for the seniors.

The Tigers from Wills Point kept applying pressure and steadily built their lead up during the fourth quarter until the Pirates got back into rhythm but it was too little too late for the Men from Crandall as they came up short for the final 52 – 44 score.  Crandall’s two district losses this season both came at the hand of the Wills Point Tigers.

The season is not over however for the Pirates from Crandall as they have qualified for post season play although their schedule is not yet certain.
