At the August FISD Board of Trustees meeting, FISD Executive Director of Technologies, Charlie Jackson, requested Board approval to two contracts necessary to supply the district with laptop parts and licensed software products for the upcoming school year.
Addressing the Board, Director Jackson explained, “Two bids for lap top parts were received. We sought bids for pricing for various laptop parts such as screens, lids, bases, and keyboards. And OEM offered the lowest price for parts compatible with our laptops.”
Jackson stated, “The Technology Department is requesting approval to purchase laptop parts from OEM for a total amount of $36,000. This purchase is a budgeted item and will be funded with technology operating funds.”
Reportedly the District received a bid from OEM for $ 36,000 and one from Two Trees for $50,700.
Director Jackson stressed, “Sometimes these lap tops get broken and we have to replace them. OEM gave us the best price and we have used their parts before and never had a problem.”
Director Jackson stated that lap top repair costs are often passed on to the student and explained that FISD parents’ sign lap top service agreements that require them to reimburse the district for certain repairs such as broken monitor screens.
The FISD Board voted unanimously to approve the OEM contract and Director Jackson next requested Board approval on five different software license and support maintenance agreements.
Director Jackson stated, “The Technology Department needs to renew several software licenses and support/maintenance agreements. These annual renewals are required to maintain access and support for software and hardware purchased in previous years and some of these items received board approval previously while others are only now exceeding the $20,000 threshold due to increase in student population. And these items are included in the budget and will be funded with technology funds.”
Supporting Director Jackson’s recommendation, FISD Superintendent, Mike Holland said, “Mr. Jackson has spent many hours going through these programs to determine which one are really being used in our classrooms. So I recommend the Board approve the request to renew this request as stated.”
The FISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approved the renewal of the below software contracts.
