Madres' Cocina Plans First Ever Tamale Eating Contest

Throughout the week of August 27th through September 1, 2012, Madres’ Cocina will host special daily events including: homecoming of previous servers, rolling back to 1998 prices, Cancer fundraisers, a city-wide school spirit night, and activities for kids every day. We will wrap up the celebration with a "Spectacular Saturday" featuring our first ever "Tamale Eating Contest".
In 1998, Madres’ Cocina opened its doors in Forney. Through the years, some faces have changed and we have expanded. However, one thing has remained a constant: the community has always been there for us and we have always been there for our community.
This year, as we plan "Madres' Cocina 15th Anniversary Celebration" it makes perfect sense to celebrate with the community...our hometown. Several highlights for the celebration include a Race Car Raffle (to benefit cancer) and Tamale Eating Contest.
Madres’ Cocina will honor cancer survivors and those who have lost their own personal battle with a specially designed race car featuring a wrap with the faces of these courageous individuals. The car will be raffled off to benefit someone in our community that needs assistance.
Tickets are currently available at Madres' for $10. The car will be part of a car show featuring others on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. A lucky ticket holder will take the race care home when the winner is announced in Abilene on October 20, 2012.
Starting at noon Saturday, September 1st Madres' friends and Forney dignitaries will come together for fun, food and prizes as we crown the "Tamale Eating" CHAMP! Additionally, the winner will be treated to ONE FREE DINNER PER MONTH FOR A YEAR.
Confirmed participants include: Forney Mayor Darren Rozell, Forney ISD Superintendent, Mike Holland, Forney Fire Chief, Rick Townsend, Forney Police Officer’s Jim Weems and Jessica Wheat, Forney Messenger Editor, Cary Griffin, Dr. Wes Wilson and Forney City Council Member, Mary Penn.
