Traffic Stop Yields Arrest on Drug Charges

On June 21, 2012 at approximately twelve midnight, a Kaufman County K-9 unit was on patrol in the city limits of Kemp Texas when he stopped a Red Mazda pickup for running a stop sign on 1st Street and Elm.
As the deputy interviewed the suspect, he asked for consent to search the vehicle and found a glass pipe used in smoking various types of illegal drugs in the driver’s side door pocket.
After a search of the suspect, the deputy located a blue zip-loc bag containing what was believed to be methamphetamines in the band of the hat that the suspect was wearing.
Arrested and charged with Possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group One Under 1 Gram was Anthony Smith, 45, of Terrell Texas. Smith was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center.
Bond is set at $5,000.00
