On Tuesday evening, City of Forney Community Development Director, Peter Morgan, requested City Council approval on a Site Plan Extension for the newly proposed, Forney Marketplace, which will reportedly include a Kroger Grocery Store.

According to Director Morgan, “the applicant is requesting an extension of the site plan for Forney Marketplace. The site plan was originally approved by the Council on December 6, 2011 however the site plan expires if an extension is not requested prior to six months of the site plan not beginning development. The extension grants an additional six months for the applicant to begin site development.”

The proposed Kroger shopping center will consist of 13,717 acres located west of F.M. 548 and north of U.S. Hwy 80. The property is currently zoned in the Forney Marketplace Planned Development and the site plans actually show two lots of land.

Lot one will consist of a Kroger Marketplace grocery store that is estimated to be approximately 113,531 square feet and lot two will consist of a Kroger fuel station.

Concerned that Forney residents may feel the project is in jeopardy, City Manager, Brian Brooks read aloud a letter from Kroger officials, dated Tuesday, June 19, 2012, that clearly acknowledged the company’s continued commitment to opening a Kroger Marketplace within Forney.
