There are 7,536 registered voters living within the city limits of Forney, Texas and 569 citizens turned out to vote in the Penn-Helms Run-Off Election and overwhelmingly decided to keep Council Member, Mary Penn, in the Place 5 City Council seat.

Campaigning in a fully heated political race, the voters of Forney were not fooled by all the jockeying for political power nor by the collective endorsements of the Mayor or Mayor Pro-tem but instead digested all the information presented to them on these candidates and then voted by 64.32% to re-elect Councilwomen Penn to the Place 5 Council position.

Even in Early Voting, which has for decades been the deciding factor in many of Forney’s City Council elections, the voters of Forney spoke loud and clear by casting 211 votes for Council Member Penn and only 128 votes for Candidate Jennifer Helms.

And then again on Tuesday, June 12th during the Run-Off Election, with Helms supporters literally waving voters into the Forney Sub-Courthouse from positions along Main Street, the voters of Forney once again very clearly voiced their opinion by casting 155 votes for Council Member Penn and only 75 votes for Candidate Helms.

Speaking with The Post minutes after the final results were announced, Council Member Penn was excited to win and very flattered by the outpouring of support she received from the citizens of Forney during this hard fought election.

Council Member Penn will be officially sworn-in to office at the next Forney City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.
