Lady Jackrabbits Move Forward in Playoff Bid

On April 27th, the Forney High School Lady Jackrabbits started playoff competition and continue to move forward in their bid for a top slot in the 2012 Texas Girls State Softball Playoffs.

Playing in the UIL Bracket 4A Region 2 Division the Lady Jackrabbits beat the Round Rock Cedar Ridge High School Lady Raiders 3-0 and 10-5 in a three game series in Bi-District play.

Lady Jackrabbit Brooke McCarroll hit a homerun with an RBI in the 5th inning of the first game to give Forney the lead. The Lady Jackrabbits scored again in the 6th inning on an error by the Lady Raiders to win the game 3-0.

In the second game, the Lady Jackrabbits worked well together as a team both offensively and defensively. Although the lead changed, five times Forney came out on top with a 10-5 win.

Moving on to the Area playoff round, the Lady Jackrabbits faced the Hallsville High School Lady Bobcats on May 3rd in a one game match.
The Lady Jackrabbits took a 1-0 lead at the end of the 1st inning with a triple by Jazzy Lusk followed by a squeeze bunt by Taylor Penn.

The Lady Bobcats tied the score 1-1 in the 4th inning.

With some superb defense by the Lady Jackrabbits, the score remained tied until the bottom of the 8th inning. Taylor LeFlore led off the inning with a fly ball to left field and was able to reach 2nd base on a dropped ball by Hallsville. LeFlore advanced to 3rd base on a sacrifice bunt by McCarroll.

With the winning run poised at 3rd base Forney’s catcher, Krista Williams, stepped to the plate. Williams battled with the Hallsville pitcher, fouling off ball after ball until she got the right pitch which she drilled over the left-fielder’s head for the walk-off, game-winning RBI.

The final score of the game was Forney 2, Hallsville 1.

The Lady Jackrabbits continue on to the Regional Quarterfinals where they will play a 3 game series against the Elgin High School Lady Wildcats starting this Friday May 11th, in Waco.

The Lady Jackrabbits are currently on a 9 game winning streak and The Forney Post wishes them success on their continued journey.
